Drilling in the 1970s found hot water instead of oil; Hundertwasser's village opened in 1997.
Practical information
Day tickets exist but the resort is designed for overnight guests; the outdoor Vulkania pool is open until late.
Getting there
Ninety minutes from Vienna or Graz by car; trains run to Bad Blumau station with a shuttle.
