San Casciano dei Bagni has more than forty thermal springs, among the most abundant in Europe, and a bathing history running from the Etruscans through the Romans to Grand Duke Ferdinando I de' Medici, whose sixteenth-century pool still stands. Fonteverde occupies a Medici villa above the valley, with terraced pools looking towards Monte Amiata.

Come for the combination of archaeology and view: the recent Etruscan-Roman votive discoveries at the Bagno Grande have made this one of the most significant thermal sites in Italy, and the hillside pools face one of Tuscany's great landscapes.
