The Baños de Panticosa lie in a glacial cirque above the Tena valley, developed as a formal spa in the nineteenth century and celebrated in Spanish literature and painting. The historic buildings — casino, chapel and bathhouses — stand around a small lake ringed by 3,000-metre peaks.

Why visit

The altitude and the architecture: few European spas sit this high, and the walking straight from the door into the Pyrenees is exceptional.
