The Balneario de Mondariz lies on the river Tea in inland Galicia, in a village that exists because of its springs. Bicarbonate-sodium mineral water from the Gándara and Troncoso sources is used for drinking cures and heated for the bathing circuits.

History

The springs were declared of public utility in 1873, and the Peinador brothers developed a grand hotel that drew Spanish and Portuguese society before it burned in 1973; the spa was rebuilt in the following decades.
