The spring above Saturnia releases some 500 litres of sulphurous water a second at a constant 37.5°C, forming the Cascate del Mulino below and feeding the pools of the historic spa resort.

The Etruscans and then the Romans used the spring; the modern resort dates from the early twentieth century.

The Cascate del Mulino are free and open around the clock; the resort's own pools require a day ticket. Silver jewellery will tarnish in the sulphur.
