Chaves was Roman Aquae Flaviae, founded around its hot springs and still crossed by the Trajan bridge. The water emerges at above 70°C, the hottest in the country, and is both drunk at the fountain in the town centre and used in the thermal treatment centre.

Por que visitar

It is a working Portuguese thermal town rather than a resort: Roman bridge, castle keep, drinking fountain and a spa in daily use by locals.
