The Balçova springs, in a western district of İzmir, were known in antiquity as the Baths of Agamemnon, where according to Pausanias the king's wounded soldiers were sent to recover. They were used through the Roman and Ottoman periods and now supply a modern thermal hotel and treatment centre as well as the district's geothermal heating.
