Carved naga spouts pouring warm sulphur water in the hills of north Bali.

Air Panas Banjar lies in a jungle ravine behind Lovina in north Bali. Warm sulphur water pours from eight carved naga heads into a first stone pool, then falls three metres from higher spouts into a second, where bathers stand under the stream to take the water on their shoulders. Frangipani and vine cover the walls above.

歴史

The pools were built during the Dutch colonial period around a spring long used by the surrounding villages, and the carved naga spouts and terraces were extended in the twentieth century. The baths remain in local hands, with a warung and gardens above them.
