Caldas de Monchique is a hamlet of pastel buildings in a eucalyptus and cork-oak valley in the Serra de Monchique, well above the Algarve coast. Its alkaline thermal water emerges at around 32°C and supplies both the thermal baths and a bottling plant.

Storia
The Romans bathed here, and the spa was popular with Portuguese royalty; João II travelled to Monchique in 1495 in search of a cure. The village was restored as a thermal resort in the late twentieth century.
