The springs of Bardejovské Kúpele have been described since the Middle Ages and were formalised as a resort in the nineteenth century, when Empress Elisabeth took the cure here in 1895. The water is cold, strongly carbonated and mineral-rich, drunk from pavilion taps for digestive complaints; bathing and treatments happen indoors at the spa houses.
