When the medieval salt mines of Ocna Sibiului flooded, they left a chain of intensely saline lakes in the collapsed shafts, several of them extremely deep. Like Sovata, some warm in stratified layers under summer sun. Bathing is seasonal and open-air, with the local mud used in wraps alongside the salt water.
