Hyōtan Onsen opened in 1922 in Kannawa, the steam-wreathed quarter of Beppu on Kyushu that draws on one of the highest concentrations of hot-spring outlets in Japan. The complex combines large indoor baths, open-air rock pools, sand baths and private family baths.

Por qué visitarlo
Its signature is the taki-yu, rows of falling hot-water columns that bathers sit under to work at shoulders and back — a Beppu speciality. The site holds a Michelin Green Guide three-star rating for hot springs.
