Petriolo has been used since Roman times and was walled in the Middle Ages to protect its bathers; the medieval enclosure still stands beside the river. Hot sulphurous water emerges at around 43 °C and collects in stone-and-gravel pools where the Farma river offers instant cold contrast.

Praktische Informationen

The riverside pools are free, unsupervised and busiest at weekends; a separate hotel spa above the river offers ticketed pools and treatments. The strong sulphur smell is normal and will stay on swimwear.
