In Bagno Vignoni, in the Val d'Orcia south of Siena, the main square is a rectangular pool of steaming thermal water, walled in stone in the 16th century. The village grew up around the spring on the Via Francigena pilgrim route; Catherine of Siena and Lorenzo de' Medici both bathed here.

Warum hingehen
The historic basin is no longer for bathing, but hotels and open-air pools in the village use the same source, and the Parco dei Mulini below shows the medieval mills the outflow once drove.
